Lewandowski Win’s FIFA The Best Men’s Player Of The Year Award Ahead Of Ronaldo And Messi Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski was the recipient of the FIFA The Best Award as he edged out Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to the coveted price.
The Polish forward was widely expected to win the award after the Ballon d’Or was cancelled and all indications pointed to him as the winner prior to the award. Lewandowski himself recently claimed he deserved to be awarded the prize after a remarkable last season with Bayern Munich. The annual FIFA best award ceremony took place virtually on Thursday with no one in attendance due to the global pandemic. None can argue Lewandowski wasn’t a deserved winner of the award. He was a key figure in the Bayern lineup as they won an unprecedented treble last season including the Champions League. The Polish forward recorded an astonishing 55 goals and 10 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions. He also finished top scorer in every of the competitions he took part in. After an initial list of 11 players, Lewandowski, Messi and Ronaldo were the three finalists for the men’s category. International captains and coaches, fans and media panel were all allowed to have their say on the winner via voting. Lewandowski continues to make history and recently became only the third player after Gerd Muller and Klaus Fischer to go past the 250-goal mark in the Bundesliga. This season, the Polish forward is on course for another prolific outing with 18 goals to his name already across all competitions; the highest of any player in Europe so far this term.
